PROTEIN SUMMARY GENE INFORMATION RNA DATA ANTIBODY DATA
GENERAL INFORMATIONi

General description of the gene and the encoded protein(s) using information from HGNC and Ensembl, as well as predictions made by the Human Protein Atlas project.

Gene namei

Official gene symbol, which is typically a short form of the gene name, according to HGNC.

NUDT3
Synonyms DIPP
Gene descriptioni

Full gene name according to HGNC.

Nudix hydrolase 3
Protein classi

Assigned HPA protein class(es) for the encoded protein(s).

Enzymes
Metabolic proteins
Predicted locationi

All transcripts of all genes have been analyzed regarding the location(s) of corresponding protein based on prediction methods for signal peptides and transmembrane regions.

  • Genes with at least one transcript predicted to encode a secreted protein, according to prediction methods or to UniProt location data, have been further annotated and classified with the aim to determine if the corresponding protein(s) are secreted or actually retained in intracellular locations or membrane-attached.

  • Remaining genes, with no transcript predicted to encode a secreted protein, will be assigned the prediction-based location(s).

The annotated location overrules the predicted location, so that a gene encoding a predicted secreted protein that has been annotated as intracellular will have intracellular as the final location.

PROTEIN FUNCTION
Protein function (UniProt)i

Useful information about the protein provided by UniProt.

Cleaves a beta-phosphate from the diphosphate groups in PP-InsP5 (diphosphoinositol pentakisphosphate) and [PP]2-InsP4 (bisdiphosphoinositol tetrakisphosphate), suggesting that it may play a role in signal transduction 1, 2, 3. InsP6 (inositol hexakisphosphate) is not a substrate 4. Acts as a negative regulator of the ERK1/2 pathway (By similarity). Also able to catalyze the hydrolysis of dinucleoside oligophosphates, with diadenosine 5',5'''-P1,P6-hexaphosphate (Ap6A) and diadenosine 5',5'''- P1,P5-pentaphosphate (Ap5A) being the preferred substrates 5, 6. The major reaction products are ADP and p4a from Ap6A and ADP and ATP from Ap5A 7. Also able to hydrolyze 5-phosphoribose 1-diphosphate 8. Acts as a decapping enzyme that modulates the stability of a subset of mRNAs implicated in cell motility 9. Hydrolyzes monomethylated capped RNA after both the alpha- and beta-phosphates generating m7GMP + ppRNA and m7GDP + pRNA 10. Can hydrolyze unmethylated capped RNAs (By similarity). Divalent cations zinc, magnesium and manganese determine its substrate specificity 11. Exhibits diphosphoinositol polyphosphate phosphohydrolase in the presence of magnesium ions, diadenosine hexaphosphate hydrolase activity in the presence of manganese ions and endopolyphosphatase activity in the presence of zinc ions 12. Plays an important role in limiting DNA damage and maintaining cell survival upon oxidative stress via its endopolyphosphatase activity 13.... show less
Molecular function (UniProt)i

Keywords assigned by UniProt to proteins due to their particular molecular function.

Hydrolase
Ligand (UniProt)i

Keywords assigned by UniProt to proteins because they bind, are associated with, or whose activity is dependent of some molecule.

Magnesium, Manganese, Metal-binding, Zinc
Gene summary (Entrez)i

Useful information about the gene from Entrez

NUDT3 belongs to the MutT, or Nudix, protein family. Nudix proteins act as homeostatic checkpoints at important stages in nucleoside phosphate metabolic pathways, guarding against elevated levels of potentially dangerous intermediates, like 8-oxo-dGTP, which promotes AT-to-CG transversions (Safrany et al., 1998).[supplied by OMIM, Feb 2011]... show less
PROTEIN INFORMATIONi

The protein information section displays alternative protein-coding transcripts (splice variants) encoded by this gene according to the Ensembl database.

The Splice variant identifier links to the Ensembl website protein summary for the selected splice variant. The data in the Swissprot and TrEMBL columns links to corresponding pages in the UniProt database.

The protein classes assigned to this protein are shown if expanding the data in the protein class column. Parent protein classes are in bold font and subclasses are listed under the parent class.

The length of the protein (amino acid residues according to Ensembl), molecular mass (kDalton), predicted signal peptide and number of predicted transmembrane region(s) according to in-house majority decision methods based on sets of predictors are also reported.
